GAF (General Aniline and Film) is a name that most of us are familiar with as a major manufacturer of roofing products; however, they were also the originators of bag filtration technology. In the late 1990s, Hayward Industrial Products acquired GAF's filtration division. Later, in 2005, Eaton Corporation acquired Hayward’s filtration business.
Loeffler was a German manufacturer of filter housings that was acquired by GAF prior to the Hayward acquisition. Consequently, many older plants still operate vessels with GAF or Loeffler nameplates. Identifying replacement restrainer baskets, O-rings, or closure bolts for these units requires specific historical knowledge.
Most GAF and Loeffler components are now obsolete. If parts are unavailable, complete vessel replacement is often necessary.
